Safeguarding of Saint-Bernard

In March 2023, Nation Prospère submitted an offer to purchase the former Saint-Bernard Church in Baie Sainte-Marie, Nova Scotia. Threatened with demolition at the time, the organization succeeded in taking possession on July 28, 2023, thanks to a partnership with
the Société Héritage Saint-Bernard.

The Campaign to Save Saint-Bernard aims to raise $2.5 million to
re-roof this mini-cathedral and modernize its services. However, the lack of success of the fundraising campaign forced the two organizations to return the property to the diocese in June 2025.

It took 32 years to build,
it’s ours to save today.

The Founders’ Circle

September 2024: The Campaign to Save Saint-Bernard continued with the creation of the Founders Circle. By November 15, 2025, la Société Héritage Saint-Bernard and Nation Prospère aimed to recruit 32 major donors who, together, would raise $500,000 ($15,625 per donor) and be recognized as
the founders of the Saint-Bernard renaissance project. The first three donors had been recruited by September 2024.

The legal action initiated by the Diocese of Halifax-Yarmouth in early October 2024 put an end to this campaign. The negotiated agreement provided for the return of ownership of the former Saint Bernard Church to the diocese.
